Arbeitskampf im Kino Babylon Mitte in Berlin

Seit Mitte Juni 2009 befindet sich die FAU im Arbeitskampf mit der »Neue Babylon GmbH«, vertreten durch die Geschäftsführer Timothy Grossman und Tobias Hackel. Die Betriebsgruppe der FAU im Kino Babylon – der stärksten im Betrieb vertretenen Arbeitnehmer- und Arbeitnehmerinnenvereinigung – hatte zuvor die Geschäftsführung aufgefordert, in Verhandlungen über einen von der Betriebsgruppe zusammen mit der Belegschaft erarbeiteten Tarifvertragsentwurf einzutreten. Dies lehnt die »Neue Babylon GmbH« rundweg ab. Der Arbeitskampf findet statt vor einem Hintergrund von prekären Arbeitsverhältnissen und Niedriglöhnen zwischen 5,50 und 8,00 Euro brutto, von Entlassungen gewerkschaftlich aktiver Beschäftigter und einem Arbeitsklima, das von Beschäftigten als „Gutsherrenmentalität“ bezeichnet wird. Die »Neue Babylon GmbH« wird jährlich mit mehreren hunderttausend Euro öffentlicher Gelder gefördert, das Kino ist einer der Austragungsorte des »Berlinale« Film Festivals.

Work conflict at the Kino Babylon Mitte (Berlin, Germany)

In June 2009 the FAU Berlin decided to take industrial action against the Neue Babylon GmbH and its managers Timothy Grossman and Tobias Hackel. The FAU job-floor branch — the biggest workers' association at the site — had called on management to enter negotiations about a collective agreement, which had been presented by the workers and the FAU. The Neue Babylon GmbH refused. The workers took a stand because of precarious working conditions, low wages from 5.50 to 8.00 (pre-tax) euros per hour, attempts to fire union activists and a general working atmosphere that workers described as "by fiat". The Neue Babylon GmbH gets several hundred thousand euros in public subsidies annually and the cinema is one of the venues of the Berlinale film festival.

Conflicto laboral en el Kino Babylon Mitte (Berlin, Alemania)

Desde mediados de junio de 2009, la FAU mantiene un conflicto laboral con la «Neue Babylon GmbH», cuyos gerentes son Timothy Grossman y Tobias Hackel. La Sección Sindical de la FAU, sindicato mayoritario en la empresa, exigía a ésta la negociación de un convenio colectivo presentado por la plantilla y la propia Sección. Dicha reivindicación fue rechazada por la «Neue Babylon GmbH». El conflicto se inició en un contexto de precariedad absoluta, con salarios malos entre 5,50 y 8,00 euros (bruto) la hora, despidos de sindicalistas y una suerte de ambiente de trabajo autocrático. La «Neue Babylon GmbH» recibe cientos de miles de euros al año a modo de subvenciones públicas y es uno de los cines donde se proyectan las películas del Festival Internacional de Cine «Berlinale».
